Skin tags are common, benign lesions that typically occur on the surface or hang off of the skin. They can vary in location and size. Skin tags are commonly found in skin folds, armpits, neck, abdomen, and groin. They often tend to be found more commonly in obese patients, or patients with diabetes type 2.
The exact cause of skin tags is unknown, however there are certain factors that may play a role.
Since skin tags are benign, no treatment needs to be done. However, sometimes skin tags can become irritated and bothersome to a patient. Skin tags can be removed by snipping them off, cautery, cryotherapy (freezing), or ligation.
