Intense Pulse Light / Photofacial (IPL)

Medical Dermatology

IPL is a non-invasive treatment that uses multiple wavelengths of light to effectively improve the appearance of several skin concerns. Vascular lesions, redness of the skin, rosacea, scars, uneven pigment (dyschromia), freckles, sunspots and melasma can be effectively treated with IPL. A topical anesthetic and cool ultrasound gel may be applied prior to treatment. An individual session typically lasts 20-30 minutes with minimal discomfort. Multiple sessions (typically 4-6) may be recommended depending on the treated area and significance of the lesions or sun damage being addressed, and are typically spaced 3-4 weeks apart.  Mild to moderate redness or speckling of the skin typically resolves within 7-10 days. Sun protection and gentle skin care is paramount after and between IPL treatment.   IPL can dramatically improve sun damage and aging of the skin with little down time and minimal discomfort.
